Characterization of stilbene-d12 for neutron spectroscopy without time of flight

We have experimentally characterized the light-output response of a deuterated trans-stilbene (stilbene-d12) crystal to quasi-monoenergetic neutrons in 0.8 4.4 MeV energy range. These data allowed us perform neutron spectroscopy measurements DT 14.1 source and 239PuBe by unfolding impinging spectrum from measured response. The stilbene-d12 outperforms 1H−stilbene similar size when comparing shape unfolded spectra reference ones. results confirm viability non-hygroscopic for direct without need time-of-flight measurements. This capability makes well suited detector fast-neutron many applications including nuclear reaction studies, radiation protection, non-proliferation, space travel.
